i love you

My younger self thought love was a bouquet of roses on valentine’s day, or perhaps going for romantic dinner every other weekend.

But love looks a little different this past year.

Love is sharing a large McDonalds french fries while watching modern family at 4 in the morning.

Love is the way you put on my socks and shoes when I’m unable to do that myself.

Love is using your piano chair as a table so we can have our own little fancy dinner.

Love is the sound you use to reassure me and the arms that hold me when I feel like my world is crashing down.

Love is when you stop smoking for a while because my ashtma came back and I left my inhaler in your car.

Love is a 1 a.m trip to buy cabbage, or searching for the boiled corn in the cob we still have yet to found.

Love is the way your hug calms all my storm and the way your words melt all my sadness.

Love is when you wake up early though sleeping late to take me to church.

Love is the comfort I felt on your shoulders and the warmth in your hands.

Love is the patience, the forgiveness, the unconditional support, the hugs, the kisses, the tears, and even all the angers.

Love rejoices a lot through all this.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always preserves.

Truth is, love looks a little different this past year.

But it’s the kind of love I’ve looked for everywhere.

And now that I know you exist,

how do I not love you?
